Emissions Caps, a Hinderance or a Help?

By Suemedha Sood 05/30/2008 01:10PM

Mike reports today that the Lieberman-Warner climate change bill is facing opposition from industry that says the proposed emissions caps would be too heavy a burden.

Some environmentalists, many of whom actually say the bill does not go far enough, argue that industry groups shouldn't be so worried.  The National Wildlife Federation points out the bill's economic benefits like investment in clean energy technologies and jobs, protection for consumers from rising energy costs, providing tax cuts for working class consumers and diversifying energy choices. In a letter to the Senate, Jeremy Symons, director of the group's global warming program said the act "will create jobs here at home, save families and businesses money and make America more energy independent."

As Mike notes, the argument is coming to an end any time soon.
