Extending or Stalling?

By Suemedha Sood 07/11/2008 02:07PM

If you actually expected the Bush administration to come out and say whether greenhouse gas emissions endanger health and the environment, you probably aren't picking up on the pattern here. Remember what's happened so far: the administration has refused to open emails, manipulated congressional testimony and deleted portions of scientific documents. And now, thanks to the White House, the EPA is extending the public comment period on this decision. If by "extending" it means stalling until the end of Bush's term. As Grist astutely points out today, the administration is simply waiting till the clock runs out. The whole process seems utterly absurd given the uncontroversial subject matter. Yes, we all know that there's a general scientific consensus about global warming being a threat to the environment and public health. Of course, if the administration admits that it knows this, it may have to actually -- God forbid -- *do* something about it.

I don’t “know” that there is a general scienific consensus about global warming being a threat to the environment.
If that is just me then…I guess that makes one of us.

I’m pretty young…
Was there “a general scientific consensus” about global cooling being a threat to the environment in the 1970s?

Before I sound like an idiot I must say that I do believe in climate change (the globe is getting warmer) however I don’t necessarily believe that there is anything that we do, are doing to make that happen.
