Illinois Supers Go Obama
Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun Times reports that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is picking up three home state superdelgates today. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, Illinois House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger are all pledging their support.
Meanwhile, Mark Halperin also reports that John Patrick, a member of United Steelworkers and Vice President of the Texas AFL-CIO, is also going to Obama.
That's five superdelgates for Obama today and a net of none for Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) (Clinton gained John Wilson but lost Joe Andrews). On a conference call just moments ago, Clinton Deputy Communications Director Phil Singer said, "We are getting a significant number of superdelegate support...We have been finding that we have a very receptive audience among uncommitted superdelegates." He then instructed reporters to keep their antennas tuned to the internet and their inboxes for superdelegate news.
Believe me Phil, I'm paying attention. But based on these results today, I'm not sure you want me to be. Stay tuned.
