John Yoo consults with lawyer Miguel Estrada (American News Project)
I noted throughout the hearing today that John Yoo required a fair amount of help from his legal counsel. But who was that vaguely-familiar looking counsel? I've just confirmed that Yoo's lawyer was a blast from the Bushie past: Miguel Estrada.
Estrada, you'll recall, was nominated in 2001 by Bush to the U.S. Court of Appeals, Washington, D.C.. Democrats filibustered him, citing his lack of forthrightness over his views on reproductive and civil rights. In Sept. 2003, he withdrew his nomination. He's currently a lawyer with the Washington firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
Funny how these guys stick together.

Note that Miguel Estrada played a role in an earlier Federalist Society scheme to keep supposedly liberal clerks out of the Supreme Court, not unlike the one that unfolded at the DOJ recently.
