Former Gov. Don Siegelman (D-Ala.) is going to be out on bail after a court decision today. The 11th Circuit overturned an earlier decision to keep him behind bars while he awaits an appeal on a bribery conviction, which his supporters have called unusual and unfair treatment. This morning Mike noted that House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) asked the Bush administration to release the Alabama Democrat temporarily so he could testify before the committee about his controversial case. There's no apparent connection between today's two developments.

Can DOJ prevent him from testifying? It’s seems that Mukasey would rather take a pointed stick to the eyes rather than have this aired at a committee; the question is, can he?
