When Will the White House Talk About Plame?

By Matthew Blake 06/20/2008 10:47AM

Scott McClellan's testimony before the House judiciary committee is on hold as the House debates just how much Democrats caved on the FISA bill.

Before the recess, McClellan brought up a good point-- didn't the White House promise that when the dust was settled they would publicly discuss the scandal? There has been no press conference, fireside chat, or even statement from George W. Bush about the Plame saga. He also never answered why he didn't fire Karl Rove in 2005 when it was discovered Rove leaked Plame's identity to Time reporter Matt Cooper (the president had vowed to fire anyone involved). McClellan just told Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) that Bush "went against his word" by neither internally investigating the leak nor firing Rove.

Meanwhile, Rep. Howard Cobble (R-N.C.) told McClellan he still believes Iraq is holding weapons of mass destruction.

Stay tuned.
